Treating the whole person, rather than just one part of the body gives better results.

Wendy Fry Therapies, Bowen Therapy, Physiotherapy, Brisbane, Australia

WENDY FRY

Wendy Fry is a Brisbane-based Physiotherapist with 35+ years experience, which included hospital and private practice work, hydrotherapy and aged care.  She currently offers the Bowen Technique as her main treatment modality, in combination with her Physiotherapy assessment skills and knowledge.

Wendy moved to offering the Bowen Technique to her clients as she found it to provide longer lasting and more holistic results than traditional Physiotherapy on its own. This happened through personal experience when she was seeking relief from a painful hip. The hip improved after 2 treatments, and her chronic jaw pain disappeared at the same time. She started her training a month later!

Wendy works from her treatment room in Wooloowin, Brisbane. The space is light, peaceful and airy, and overlooks a colourful garden.

ABOUT
BOWEN

BOWEN TECHNIQUE

The Bowen Technique was developed originally in Geelong by sports trainer, Tom Bowen, over 50 years ago. He initially started treating his family and workmates, before opening a full time Practice after word spread about his incredible results. This technique is now offered by over 26 000 therapists in 30 countries.

The Bowen Technique is a gentle but effective approach to pain relief that triggers the body’s natural healing responses. It recognises that the underlying cause of many musculoskeletal, neuromuscular, and other health problems can be found in the fascia, and often in a different area to the location of the pain.

The treatment consists of gentle cross fibre soft tissue mobilisations being performed over specific locations throughout the body. These are done in a specific sequence, with essential pauses after each procedure to allow the autonomic nervous system to respond. The technique offers long lasting relief from pain and discomfort. It improves general mobility, relaxes muscles and tendons, and stimulates healing.

What is fascia?

Fascia is a multi-dimensional connective tissue that surrounds muscles, tendons, bones, organs, nerves and blood vessels. It is rich in a range of receptors that influence the body’s neuromuscular physiology.

During her Bowen therapy training, Wendy was reminded of the important role that the fascia has, and how it influences the health and integrity of the other body systems. She was introduced to the work of Thomas Myers and his book “Anatomy Trains”. It includes extensive information about the myo-fascial meridians, describing the different ‘lines of pull’ of the fascia. It explains why treating directly on a painful area exclusively will often miss the issue.

Conditions that respond well to the Bowen Technique include:

  • Sports injuries

  • Neck and back pain, sciatica

  • Knee, ankle and foot pain

  • Plantar fasciitis, heel spurs

  • Headaches, earache, migraine and TMJ dysfunction

  • Shoulder conditions

  • Tennis elbow, RSI

  • Respiratory complaints

  • Arthritis

  • Chronic pain

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Stress and anxiety, insomnia

  • ...and many others

"Wendy applies her extensive knowledge of physiotherapy and anatomy to her gentle Bowen therapy. In a couple of sessions she's brought massive relief to a shoulder that has been very painful and restricted for months. I find her treatment extremely efficient and far less painful than remedial massage."

"I wish I'd used Wendy Fry's Bowen therapy earlier. It would have saved me a lot of unnecessary pain. After two knee operations, my body was stressed and so was I.  I'd tried other therapists and the results I was getting didn't justify the severe discomfort I went through. Then I tried Wendy's unique blend of Bowen and physiotherapy and my body said thank you.

Her gentle techniques helped my muscles to heal. As well, she treated my whole body, not just my knee. In fact, her first comment to me as I entered her soothing and welcoming treatment room was, "You have one shoulder higher than the other." She immediately set about fixing that.

This endorsement comes from the heart, with gratitude. I hope I never have to go through another operation. If I do, I'll be putting Wendy in charge of my recovery."

"I have been one of Wendy’s patients since 2015, when she first set up her business from home

I have ongoing  health issues, and had tried many different therapies, in an attempt to find relief. Went to see Wendy to try some Bowen Therapy, which I had not had before.

The results were very noticeable in that I felt a lot stronger and more relaxed, even after the first treatment, and this has kept me returning to see Wendy on a regular basis ever since.

When I say she has Healing Hands, I am not exaggerating! – It’s the only way to describe the way it feels at the end of a treatment! I believe that Wendy’s extensive knowledge and experience of the human body and how it works, from her practice as a Physiotherapist over the last 35 years greatly enhances the effectiveness of her Bowen Therapy treatments."
